Dan Bunting was hired as the Chief of Police/Marshal for Alexandria in January of 2018, by newly elected Mayor Jim Jasper. Dan served Alexandria as a councilman from 2012 thru 2017. Up until 2012, Dan had previously held the position of the Alexandria Village Marshal, which is equivalent to the Chief of Police.

In 2006, Dan left the Licking County Sheriff's Office, where he served under both Sheriff Gerry Billy and Sheriff Randy Thorp. He was offered a position in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado as Deputy Sheriff with the Eagle County Sheriff's Department. It wasn't long before Dan figured out that he couldn't afford the high cost of living in the Vail Valley and moved back to Ohio, and landed in the community of Alexandria.

Dan is a 1992 graduate of the Central Ohio Police Officer's Training Academy in Reynoldsburg, Ohio and his first police commission was in Union County, Ohio.
